NICARAGUA travel- SEEDS OF LEARNING, 2010
During the summer of 2010, my children and I traveled to Ciudad Dario, Nicaragua, with the non-profit program Seeds of Learning. It was a life changing experience for us all. Eight adults and eight children spent two weeks immersed in the Nicaraguan culture and landscape as we worked side by side with locals to build a two room school house in Agua Fria, as well as teaching children in the Seeds of Learning Resource Center in Dario.
Seeds of Learning, dedicated to enhancing education in rural Latin America, provided a hands-on experience for my children to grasp the significance of their billingual education, as well as understand more about the people of Central America. Seeds of Learning provides volunteer work groups in Nicaragua and El Salvador, as well as a chance to develop sister school relationships. Emerson Jr. High is now partnered with the school we helped build in Agua Fria, Nicaragua. Cesar Chavez Elementary and Willet Elementary have also established sister school programs through Seeds of Learning in El Tempisque and Palo de Agua, Nicaragua.
