HOW TO USE THIS WEBSITE
What is global education? Why is it important? What competencies do our students need to be competitive in the global marketplace? What does it look like in our schools?
These are just some of the questions 21st century educators must grapple with as we prepare ourselves and our students for a changing world, a world of unprecedented migration, increased reliance on technology, and the metaphorical shrinking of our globe.
Children today must have the ability to understand and integrate interdisciplinary knowledge in a manner that is purposeful, grounded in academic disciplines, integrative and thoughtful. Educators must utilize critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and leadership, ability and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurialism, effective oral and written communication, and curiosity and imagination with the ability to access and analyze information to prepare our students to survive in the 21st century. It is my hope that this website will serve as a starting point for teachers, principals and school districts to understand, and then build on, our goal of creating globally competent students.
Please use this guide with the same spirit that I began it. Use it with passion, with a sense of adventure, and with a leap of faith. Be willing to take a chance on trying something new, reaching out for help, and doing things you never knew you could.
